Mozammel Hossain Sajal: Traffic movement on Dhaka-Munshiganj road remained halted for three hours on Saturday as a fabric factory workers placed barricade on the highway demanding salary arrears of three months.
Around 2,000 agitated workers of Barnali Fabrics Factory blocked the road at Char Muktarpur area under Sadar upazila from 9:00am to 12:00 noon, creating intense traffic congestion.
Muktarpur Naval Police Outpost sub-inspector Joynal Abedin said the authorities announced the factory closed on Thursday hanging a notice in front of the factory.
The notice read that the factory was closed due to continuous loss and getting no-cooperation from banks.
According to the notice, managing director of the factory is currently staying abroad for treatment of his several diseases.
District administration and police assured the workers that they will discuss with the owners about the factory’s sudden closure, salary arrears and different demands, said Deputy Commissioner Shaila Farzana.
