Two people were killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion in Sadar upazila of Munshiganj district on Tuesday afternoon.
Deceased ‘Langra’ Khasru, 35, hailed from Ballalbari village, and ‘Kana’ Sumon, 35, from South Kotgaon village in the district.
Confirming the matter, Munshiganj RAB-1 commanding officer Enayet Hossain Mannan said the deceased were listed terrorists. They were accused in at least 10 cases, including arms, explosives and drugs, he added.
The RAB official said a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Ballalbari area to caught Khasru and Sumon. Sensing their presence, the criminals, who were going through Ballalbari road by a car, fired gun shots at RAB members, prompting them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
Later, RAB members found the bullet-hit bodies of Langra Khasru and Kana Sumon on the spot.
Two RAB members also received bullet wounds during the encounter, said the RAB official.
Two foreign pistols, five bullets and 39 Yaba tablets were also recovered from the scene.
