Police on Friday arrested a leader of ruling Awami League’s student wing, Bangladesh Chhatra League, for alleged involvement in extortion from a construction firm in Munshiganj district town.
The arrested was identified as Nibir Ahmed, president of Govt Haraganga College unit of BCL. The other accused were district BCL president Faysal Mridha and four to five unidentified men,
who demanded Tk 10 lakh from the construction firm employed to build structure at the college, police said.
Police arrested Nibir from his residence in Courtgaon area of the town around 12:30 pm and, later, he was sent to jail in the afternoon.
