Man arrested by police killed in Munshiganj ‘shootout’

A man accused in six cases has been killed in an alleged shootout involving police at Munshiganj’s Sadar Upazila.

According to Munshiganj Sadar Police OC Alamgir Hossein, the gunfight occurred around 2 am on Sunday beneath the Taleshwar Bridge in Bageshwar.

Police say that Humayun gave them information about a weapons stash and police took him along on a raid.

Members from Humayun’s gang attempted to ambush the police team at the hideout and opened fire on them, Hossein said.

“Police returned fire. Humayin was caught in the crossfire. He was rushed to Munshiganj General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.”

Two police personnel were injured in the gunfight and have been admitted to hospital, Hossein said.

A foreign pistol, three rounds of bullets and machetes were recovered from the scene, police said.
