‘Robber’ escapes custody at DMCH

An accused in a robbery case escaped from police custody at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) yesterday.

Idris Molla, 45, fled by scaling the window of a toilet of DMCH around 6:30pm, Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, told The Daily Star.

He had been undergoing treatment with bullet injuries to his stomach since February 2, Bachchu Mia said. Two policemen and an Ansar member were on duty for his treatment.

Shah Mohammad Awlad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Tongibari Police Station in Munshiganj, told The Daily Star that Idris was arrested while he along with his cohorts was committing robbery at a house in Tongibari.

A gunfight took place between the homeowner, who owns a licensed pistol, and the gang at the time, said the OC. A team of Tongibari Police Station arrested him while others managed to flee, he added.
