Minor goes missing as speedboat capsizes in Padma

The speedboat, carrying 19 passengers, capsized around 8:45am
A minor boy has gone missing after a speedboat, carrying 19 passengers, capsized in Padma river near Shimulia ferry ghat.

The missing boy is Deen Islam Rony, 8, son of Siddiqur Rahman , resident of Dhaka’s Mirpur area.

The speedboat capsized at around 8:45am on Tuesday, while coming to Shimulia ferry ghat from Kathalbari ghat, Lohajang Upazila Nirbari Officer (UNO) Md Kadirul Islam Khan said.

Following the incident, nearby boats rescued the drowning passengers from the water, but one person still remain missing according to her mother.

Members of Army, Coast Guard, Fire Service and Naval police are conducting search operation to rescue the missing child, he added.

Aminul Islam, in-charge of Naval police, said: “Some 18 passengers, boarding the boat, have been rescued by locals soon after the capsize incident. However, search operation is underway to recover the missing one.”
