Padma Bridge and its rail link operation might not be launched together

It is uncertain if Padma Bridge and its rail link project on Bhanga-Mawa section can be launched for public on the same day.

Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujon said this while talking to journalists during a visit to the construction site this morning.

It will take around six months to place railway tracks on the bridge, but it is yet to be clear when the bridge authorities can hand it over to the railway authorities, the minister said.

The current work by the bridge authority might go on till March-April next year, he added.

“If bridge authorities do not hand over the work to railway within December 2021 or January 2022, it will not be possible to install the tracks within June 2022,” the minister said.

“In case bridge and rail operation cannot begin together, we will try to start rail operation on Dhaka-Bhanga route from December 2022,” the minister added.
