Tension between the families of the student and his girlfriend said to have incited the incident
Two persons have been accused of killing an eighth-grade student by luring him from home on the pretext of meeting his girlfriend. The incident occurred in Munshiganj’s Gazaria upazila on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Jannat Bepari Shijan, 16. The arrested are the girlfriend’s mother and uncle, namely Aleha Begum, 45, and Mamun, 55.
Gazaria police arrested the two from Guagachia village of the upazila around 5am. Earlier on Friday, Shijan’s mother Sumi Begum filed a murder case against four people, including the accused, at Gazaria police station.
According to the victim’s family and police sources, the student who was killed was in love with a girl from his school against the wishes of both their families.
On Thursday at 12 noon, Shijan was asked to meet his girlfriend near her home where he was beaten and then abandoned in a place near home. On getting news of him, Shijan’s family members came to the spot and rescued him in critical condition. They took him to Gazaria Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Fazr Ali, grandfather of the deceased Shijan said that the brother of his girlfriend called him to the location and killed him.
However, the girlfriend’s father Mostafa said the allegation was completely false and fabricated.
Gazaria police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Raich Uddin said the murder was believed to have been caused by a love relationship. Police have arrested the girl’s mother and uncle in the incident. They have been sent to Munshiganj court.
