Tongibari UZ chair Jaglul Halder passes away

Tongibari Upazila chairman Jaglul Halder (Bhutu) passed away. He died at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Dhaka at 3 pm on Monday. He was 75.

He was twice elected upazila chairman. He was also the former president of Upazila Awami League. The death of this senior politician cast a shadow of mourning across the district. The deceased’s younger brother Kabir Halder said that his brother passed away while undergoing treatment for the esophagus tumor.

Jaglul Halder Bhutu won the upazila election of March 31, 2019 as an independent candidate. Previously he was elected upazila chairman in 1990. Before that, he was elected chairman of his native Dighirpar Union Parishad in 1977.

He served as the general secretary of Upazila Awami League from 1985 to 2000 and president of Upazila Awami League from 2000 to 2020. He resigned as president on November 10, 2020.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters and numerous well-wishers. Professor Sagufta Yasmin Emily, MP from Munshiganj-2 Constituency, expressed deep grief over his death.
