Committee members stage demo against Sirajdikhan BNP convenor

A group of members of Sirajdikhan upazila BNP convening committee in the party’s upazila unit office in Munshiganj on Monday in a statement urge the party high-ups to take immediate organisational steps against the convener.

A group of members of Sirajdikhan upazila BNP convening committee in Munshiganj on Monday staged demonstration against the committee convener Sheikh Md Abdullah alleging that the convener was acting arbitrarily and involved in activities against the party.

They staged the demonstration in the party’s upazila unit office in the upazila town where a total of 27 members, out of 51, of the committee in a statement urged the party high ups to take immediate organisational steps against the convener.

They alleged that Abdullah’s non-political behaviour, breaching relations with skilled and selfless leaders and conducting party activists with some ‘staff’, taking decision without informing the committee members, forming union BNP committees with his favourite leaders and not participating in the central BNP declared programmes were creating hopelessness among the party leaders and activists.

They also alleged that Abdullah also organised ‘not a single programme’ in BNP office after becoming convener and that he himself appointed member secretary without consulting with any of the upazila committee members.

The BNP faction leaders also alleged that Abdullah dissolved party committees of 14 unions through facebook posts and, in other facebook posts after seven months, again announced convening committees for the unions with his favourite persons.

As a result, they alleged, the activities of the main opposition party in Sirajdikhan had become standstill.

Sirajdikhan upazila BNP’s former president Abdul Quddus Dhiron and the convening committee members Aolad Hossain Molla, Mahiuddin Ahmed, Jasim Uddin Khokon, Delwar Hossain Bhuiyan, Abdul Khaleque Sikder, Jayedul Islam, Azizul Haque Khan, Mujibur Rahman Khan, Ali Ansar Molla, Shah Alam and Shila Kamal are among the speakers in the demonstration.

Abdullah said that he conducted the party activities maintaining democratic norms and consulting with other members of his committee.

‘We formed committees as per decision of all the members. We try to form committees by holding council sessions but it is true that council sessions were not held in some unions due to police disturbance,’ he claimed.

He alleged that those who spoke against him on Monday were involved in doing politics by ‘compromising with others’ secretly and never faced cases for doing politics.
