A college student was shot during a clash between two groups in Makhati area of Mollakandi union in Munshiganj on Sunday.
The injured is Kawser Ahmed, 20, a student of Government Haraganga College in Munshiganj.
Kawser Ahmed alleged that opponent Faisal Sarkar shot at him with a shotgun.
According to local and police sources, the clash ensued between Faisal Sardar and Nahid groups based on previous disputes.
The members of both groups were associated with the local unit of the ruling Awami League, according to the sources.
Kawser was shot in the middle of the exchange of fire when the groups got into chases and scuffles.
Later, he was rescued and sent to Munshiganj General Hospital. Several others were also injured during the clash.
Kawser’s mother said that she wanted justice for his son.
Munshiganj General Hospital emergency department doctor Sohag Hasan said that the patient sustained bullet injuries to hands and feet.
He was later referred to Dhaka for better treatment, said the doctor.
Munshiganj additional superintendent of police Thandar Khairul Hasan said that additional police personnel have been deployed in the area.
‘The situation there is under control. The process of taking legal action in this regard is underway’, added the police officer.
