Track car reaches Bhanga from Dhaka crossing Padma Bridge

A track car reached Bhanga Rail Station for the first time on Saturday through Mawa after crossing the Padma Bridge.

The track car left Gendaria in Dhaka Railway Station around 9:30am.

and reached Mawa around 11:15am.

The experimental track car took one hour and 45 minutes to reach Mawa in Munshiganj district. After one hour of stopover at Mawa, the train reached Bhanga Station after crossing the Padma Bridge. The track car took another one hour to reach Bhanga.

On the way, the observation team in the track car observed the potential faults at various points and stations of the railway line established in the Dhaka-Mawa section.

The concerned officials said the track car took one hour and 45 minutes to reach Mawa from Gendaria Station in the capital crossing the Buriganga and Dhaleswari rivers. Now, finishing work on Padma Bridge rail lines is going on. Dhaka to Bhanga passenger trains will be launched after a month, while Dhaka to Jashore 172km railway line will be opened in 2024.

At that time, Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Railway Md Kamrul Ahsan, Project Director Afzal Hossain, Project Manager Brigadier General Ahmed Jamiul Islam, along with local and foreign engineers were present.

Project Director of Padma Bridge Rail Link Project Afzal Hossain said, “The railway line from Dhaka to Mawa has already been completed. Now, only some tamping, packing and levelling works are left.”

He said, “About 85 per cent work of the Dhaka-Mawa section has been completed. Installation of signals has not been finished. Some of the tamping work of the track is left out. We will need another month to do the levelling and alignment work”.

Syed Shaukat Ali Lebu, the engineer of the Padma Bridge Rail Link Project, said, “We have reached Mawa today for the first time by riding the experimental train from Ganderia in Dhaka. Work progress is quite good. Now there is a little work to do, which will end satisfactorily in a few days. Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate it sometime in late September and passenger trains will start running.”
