The police on Wednesday arrested a bus driver and his assistant on charge of attempting to rape a girl on a running bus in Munshiganj’s Gazaria upazila.
The accused driver is Rabbi, 17, and the assistant Yamin, 15. Both of them are the residents of the upazila’s Baluaknadi union.
The victim, a Class VII student, said that she board a minibus of RM Transport Company to return home from school at around 2:30pm on Wednesday.
At that time, there were six to seven passengers in the bus, which had no number plate. However, all passengers, except her, got off the bus after the vehicle went some distance, she said.
Taking advantage of the situation, the driver and the helper started to harass her and asked her to act like a married couple and they threatened to kill her otherwise.
At one point, when she started screaming loudly, they let her got off the bus out of fear, the victim added.
Later, the victim’s uncle called at 999.
Gazaria Police Station officer-in-charge Molla Saheb Ali said that the police also seized the bus and had been investigating into the matter.
The bus had no number plate, and the driver also had no license, said the OC.
Assistant director of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority’s Munshiganj district, Touhidul Islam Tushar, said that the bus had no route permit and the BRTA would conduct mobile courts against such buses.
