Police have arrested a pirate along with arms and ammunition at Gozaria upazila in Munshiganj district on Wednesday afternoon while taking preparation to commit robbery in the Megna River.

Arrested Pyash, an accused in 22 cases, was a resident of Jamalpur village under Gougasia union of the upazila.

Police seized a gun, two rounds of bullet, one knife and three trawlers from his possession.

Md Aslam Khan, superintendent of Munshiganj police, said, “Pyash is the listed pirate of the Meghna River. Besides, he was also involved in various crimes, including drug dealing.”

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police led by additional police super (Sader circle) Khairul Islam conducted a drive in the area and arrested Pyash from the scene. But other gang members managed to flee.

Pyash is fugitive in five cases, the police official added.
