A mother and daughter died after being hit by a truck in Munshiganj Sadar Upazila. Two others were injured in the incident. The accident took place in Shantinagar of upazila on Sipahipara-Muktarpur road on Saturday afternoon.

Munshiganj Sadar police station OC Aminul Islam confirmed the matter. He said – after the incident, the excited crowd set fire to the truck. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control and arrested the driver of the truck, Tuhin Mallik (28).

The deceased are Lipi Akhter (35), wife of Malaysian expatriate Jasim Uddin of Anandpur village of Mollakandi upazila, and her seven-month-old daughter Anisha Akhter.

According to the relatives, Lippi Akhtar came to Sadar Hospital with her two daughters for treatment. They were returning home by easy bike after taking treatment. At that time, the cement-laden truck hit the easybike. In this, Lipi and Anisha who was in her lap fell and went under the truck. Two died on the spot.

Easybike driver Shaon (35) and Lipi Akhter’s elder daughter Maria Akhter (12) were injured.

The truck and the autorickshaw are in police custody, police said.
