A Munshiganj court has acquitted 115 BNP leaders and activists in a sabotage case after finding no evidence against them.

The verdict was delivered by Senior Judicial Magistrate Judge Joshita Islam today (29 September) at 1pm, following a hearing from both the prosecution and defence.

The case was filed by the police in 2013 against BNP members in Sreenagar upazila, accusing them of involvement in sabotage activities.

After 11 years of legal proceedings, the accused were finally acquitted, bringing relief to those involved.

Following the verdict, the acquitted individuals gathered in the courthouse premises, chanting slogans against tyranny and celebrating what they described as a victory for justice.

Defence lawyer Mahbub Alam Swapan said, “In 2013, a false case of sabotage was filed against BNP activists with Sreenagar Police Station. The accused have endured harassment, torture, and imprisonment over the years. Today, during the hearing, the prosecution witnesses could not substantiate any specific allegations of sabotage. The court, after hearing both sides, found no truth in the charges and acquitted all the accused. I believe justice has been served.”

One of the acquitted, former BNP president of Sreenagar upazila, Momin Ali, shared his reaction to the ruling stating, “In 2013, we protested on the highway, demanding a fair election as the Awami League was preparing to hold elections without the BNP. The police responded with gunfire and baton charges. Later, the police falsely accused us in this case. After 11 years of trial, we have finally received justice. We hope all BNP activists will be freed from such false cases.”
