The arrestees gave confessional statements in court and were sent to jail
Police on Thursday night arrested three individuals for gangraping a woman on a trawler at Domrakhali Char in the Padma River in Munshiganj.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zakir Hossain of Padma Bridge (North) Police Station confirmed the matter and said the incident took place on Sunday.
At a press briefing, Munshiganj district police said the survivor filed a written complaint the following day, accusing four individuals. After a preliminary investigation, police registered the case on Thursday.
That night, police conducted an operation in the Jashaldia Kutupkhola area of Louhajang Upazila, arresting the prime accused, Jamal Molla, 23. Later, they arrested Yamin Munshi, 19, and Jabbar Sheikh, 18.
All three gave confessional statements in court before being sent to jail.
The fourth suspect, Abu Bakkar Siddique, remains at large.
According to the press briefing, the woman was waiting for a boat at the old Mawa ferry ghat when Abu Bakkar Siddique and Jamal Molla lured her onto a trawler, promising to take her to her husband’s house.
Along the way, Yamin Munshi and Jabbar Sheikh boarded, took her to an isolated area at Domrakhali Char, and raped her.
Around 9pm, they dropped her near the old Coast Guard station in Mawa, threatening her before fleeing.
Police seized the trawler and two smartphones from the arrestees and sent them for forensic examination.
