Child injured in Munshiganj cocktail explosion

A child was seriously injured in a cocktail explosion in Munshiganj Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon. The injured child has been identified as Mostakim, 8, son of Al Amin, a resident of Munshikandi area.

According to family sources, the incident occurred around 2:30 PM in the Munshikandi area under Mollakandi union when Mostakim had gone out to play near a potato field without his family’s knowledge. Suddenly, a cocktail-like thing exploded.

Being heard, family members rushed to the spot, found Mostakim lying on the ground in a bloodied condition and rushed him to Munshiganj Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

After initial treatment, he has been referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment.

Munshiganj General Hospital emergency medical officer Dr SM Ferdous Hasan said that the explosion severely damaged all the fingers of the child’s right hand. Moreover, the child also sustained injuries to his right leg.

Confirming the incident, Munshiganj Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Mominul Islam said that the matter is under investigation.
