The government is taking initiative for issuing security bond to collect funds for the Padma Bridge from the capital market, Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain told the House replying to questions from lawmakers.
He said the World Bank with other donor agencies has given assurance to provide the government with funds of US$ 460 million, which includes the WB’s supports for the Roads Reform Project.
According to the Final Scheme Design, the total cost for constructing the Padma Bridge may stand around US$ 2.4 billion, against the preliminary estimate of US$ 1,472.72 million.
The communications minister replied the questions raised by Jatiya Party lawmakers ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, Salma Islam and HM Golam Reza and ruling party members Begum Meher Afroz, AKM Rahamatullah and Golam Dastagir Chowdhury.
Syed Abul Hossain also said the government on priority basis is making efforts to introduce electric train service on Dhaka-Chittagong route and all necessary steps were taken for feasibility study of the project.
