Ferries came to a halt at Mawa-ghat on Monday evening due to stormy weather. This has resulted in hundreds of vehicles waiting at the ghat.
Md Ashikuzzaman, BIWTC’s assistant general manager for Mawa-ghat, told bdnews24.com at 9pm that ferry services have become risky due to bad weather and stormy winds.
“As a safety measure, all types of water vessels including the ferries in Mawa-Kaorakandi and Mawa-Mangalmajhi have been stopped,” he added.
He said three Ro-Ro ferries, loaded with cars and passengers, were waiting at the bank. The others were anchored.
The official said that Ro-Ro ferries will resume by Monday night if the weather improves.
