Sayedee shown arrested in Humayun Azad murder case

Jamaat-e-Islami central executive member Delwar Hossain Sayedee was shown ‘arrested’ in connection with the attempted murder of writer Humayun Azad.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrates’ Court-1 judge, HM Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan, granted a CID petition to show the former MP ‘arrested’ in the case on Sunday.

CID inspector Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman also asked the court for remanding him for seven days in the case.

Magistrate Habibur set July 15 for hearing the remand plea.

Jamaat chief Matiur Rahman Nizami, secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed and Sayedee were arrested on June 29 for violating a court order in a case for hurting religious sentiments.

The following day, two separate courts allowed the police to grill them for 16 days in five cases.

Ramna police began grilling Sayedee in Faruk Hossain murder case on Saturday.

Dhaka University Bangla department teacher Azad was attacked in front of the Bangla Academy while he was on his way home from Ekushey Book Fair on Feb 27, 2004.

After he recovered, he was sent to Germany where he died on the night of Aug 11, 2004, the day he reached Germany.

His younger brother Manjur Kabir filed two cases with Ramna police, accusing unidentified persons.
