An optician has confessed to journalists that he strangled his wife to death during a domestic quarrel after he was detained by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Ali Hossain, from Goran, was detained by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from South Keraniganj on Wednesday night and confessed to them that he had murdered his 19 year old wife Kanika Akter.
Ali Hossain confirmed to reporters congregated at a RAB-3 office in Tikatuli on Thursday morning, that the couple used to quarrel over the money he had sent from Saudi Arabia, and that their quarrels would sometimes turn violent.
“On the day of the murder, in the heat of a quarrel, she slapped me at our Goran house. She died when I choked her,” he said, adding that he fled after the incident, leaving their 1 year old son, Adar, with his in-laws.
Ali Hossain strangled his wife on Sunday night. Police recovered the dead body from the house on Monday after breaking open the door.
RAB-3 director Lt Col Mamun Mahmud Firoz Chowdhury said, that an operation was carried out at Munshiganj to arrest Ali Hossain and that he was later detained from South Keraniganj on Wednesday night.
Ali Hossain said that he married Kanika in March 2006 and left for Saudi Arabia after a few days. He returned to Bangladesh in 2010 and started his own business as a spectacle technician.
Hossain used to live in a sublet house at 219 East Goran with his wife and son.
