HC rules Khoka for not complying with order

The High Court (HC) on Thursday issued a rule against Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka and another to explain why contempt of court proceedings should not be drawn against them for not complying with its order.

The higher court also asked Khoka and DCC Project Director Yusuf Abdulaah Harron to appear before the court on September 1 for explanation in this regard.

The HC on February 15 this year directed them to submit a report within four-month on how much waste have been dumped into the Savar dumping ground and what is the negative impact the dwellers have been facing following the waste dumping.

The court has passed the order following a writ petition filed by Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers? Association (Bela).

Since the DCC authorities have not submitted a report to the HC as per its order, a lawyer of Bela recently brought the matter before the HC, prompting it to issue the contempt of court rule against the DCC mayor and the project director.
