At least 3 men were wounded by bullet when two rival groups of Awami League supporters clashed at Munshikandi village in Sadar upazila today.
Police confirmed the ugly clash but could not give the identity of the bullet victims as they were undergoing treatment in unknown private clinics to avoid police action. But Kamal Kazi, member of the Mollakandi union parishad who is leader of a group keeping secret of identity of the victims told UNB that they are given medical treatment in certain place.
Locals said at least 12 houses were damaged during the clash that took place as sequel to long running rivalry between the groups, one led union AL secretary Nurul Amin Dewan and UP member Kamal Kazi and the other by AL activist Swapan Dewan over domination in the area. More than 100 supporters of Swapan have fled the village in the face of random gunfire.
Witnesses said the clash was triggered by Swapan Dewan group. His supporters armed with lethal weapons launched a surprised attack on the home of Kamal Kazi in the morning and ransacked three houses.
Soon the supporters of Nurul Amin and Kamal Kazi assembled together and launched a counter attack leading to the fierce clash. Sounds of barrage of gunshots were heard during the clash.
