3 missing launch passengers could not be traced out till Friday

Three passengers of a launch, who went missing being fallen into the Padma river on Thursday night, could not be traced out till Friday.

They are Sikander Dhali of Palong upazila of Shariatpur, Manik Madbar of Jazira upazila of Shariatpur and another unidentified Kuwait expatriate.

Three people traveling on a launch, MV Parvin, fell into the river after the launch hit an anchored ferry due to strong current soon after it left the launch ghat at about 7:30pm Thursday.

The launch was sailing to Shariatpur from Mawa ghat in Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj.

Launch ghat, sea-boat ghat, trawler ghat and ferry ghat are located nearby at the Mawa ghat.

The missing people could not be found till filing of this report at 8pm Friday.

Meanwhile, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan in a visit to Mawa ghat today directed the concerned officials to take stern steps for checking accident in river route.

He warned that accident at Mawa time and again would not be tolerated. He directed to remove launch ghat, sea-boat ghat and trawler ghat to safe place from Mawa ferry ghat.

The minister paid the sudden visit at noon today after hearing about the incident.
