1 dies over cowhide dispute at Gajaria Kandi

One person has been killed in a dispute over purchasing cowhide in Munshiganj. The incident occurred at Gajaria Kandi village under Sadar Upazila on Wednesday, police said.

The deceased, Khoka Mollah, 40, was an owner of a grocery shop at the Munshiganj Market. He was a local Awami League activist.

Khijir Ali, 42, Mollah’s brother-in-law, was also critically injured in that attack and has been admitted into Munshigaj General Hospital.

Munshiganj Sadar police chief Shahidul Islam told bdnews24.com that Khijir had sold the hide of his sacrificial cow after the Eid sacrifice was made. Subsequently some local people, supporters of ‘Sharif’ and ‘Sabuj’, came to buy the hide.

They beat up Khijir as he had refused to sell the already sold cowhide. The miscreants also attacked Mollah when he came forward to support Khijir.

Mollah was critically injured in that attack and was declared dead by the duty doctors after being taken to the Munshigaj General Hospital.

The body had been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy, the police chief said.
