Book on Humayun Azad launched

“When Dr Humayun Azad was alive I used to come with him to Amar Ekushey Book Fair every day, but now I am so traumatised that I don’t enjoy attending it the way I felt it before,” said Latifa Khanam, wife of Humayun Azad, at the publication ceremony of her daughter’s book at the Amor Ekushey Book Fair.

Prof Husain at the programme laid emphasis on the reading habit saying, “To be a good writer it is essential for one to be a good reader first.”

The cover of three other books ‘Droher Padabali’, ‘Shundar Danter Shundar Hashi’ and ‘Bangladesher Muktijuddha-Shundarban Sub-sector’ were also unveiled on Thursday on Nazrul Mancha of Bangla Academy premises. All the four books were published by Agamee Prakashani.

Prof Anwar urged the writers to devote themselves for better writing and said, “Books with creative and innovative writing enrich our spirit. However, the number of these books is not so many compared to that of the total number of books.”

About her book Mauli Azad said, “Readers will discover an undiscovered Humayan Azad through this book.”

The book ‘Droher Padabali’ was written by Sheikh Hafizur Rahman. ‘Shundar Danter Shundar Hashi’ and ‘Bangladesher Muktijudhha-Shundarban Sub-sector’ were written by Dr Arup Ratan and Dr Sheikh Gaus Mia respectively.

Chief Whip Abdus Shahid, Dr Arup Ratan and Nasrin Parvin of Boston University, USA, were also present at the book launching programme.

Earlier, a discussion on ‘Rabindranath Tagore O Bangladesher Sangskritik Andolan’ was held on the book fair premises while cultural activist Ramendu Majumder read out the keynote paper.

A total of 77 new books, including 12 stories, 7 novels, 13 essays, 13 on poetry, two research-based books, two rhymes, two children literatures, three autobiography, five liberation war based books, two books on science, one travel story, one history, three science fiction and nine others, arrived at the fair on Thursday.
