The late BNP secretary general, Khandaker Delwar Hossain, played a key role in protecting the country’s democracy as well as nationalist movement during the time of emergency period, said BNP leaders of a local unit in Munshiganj.
They said this on Monday while addressing a mourning programme organised by Sirajdikhan upazila unit BNP at its office in Munshiganj, said a press release of the unit.
Chaired by Sirajdikhan upazila BNP president Abdul Quddus Dhiran, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by the unit general secretary, Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, vice-president Khandaker Mahmudur Rahman, Kazi Mostaque Ahmed, Motahar Hossain, Juba Dal leaders Delwar Hossain Bhuiyan and Ataur Rahman, convener of Swechchhasebak Dal upazila unit Siddique Mollah, former district Chhatra Dal president Yasin Suman and acting president of thana Chhatra Dal Ahidul Islam.
Portraying different achievements and success in Delwar’s life sketch, Dhiran said, ‘The death of Khandaker Delwar has caused harm not only to the BNP, but also to the country’s politics and democracy.’
‘His sagacity and principle saved democracy and nationalist movement of the country,’ he added.
