The government plans to sign US$2.3 billion loan agreement with the co financiers of the country’s Padma multipurpose bridge project this month, said a top official.
Secretary of Bridge Division, Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, said the World Bank has already agreed to sign the agreement on its part of $1.2 billion during a meeting held at its headquarters this week.
He said the managing director, N’Gozi of the World Bank will visit Bangladesh at the end of April and sign the agreement.
The high profile government delegation led by the Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) Secretary visited Washington to attend the co-financiers’ meeting at the bank’s headquarters.
“The meeting resolved all the unsettled issues,” he told the FE Wednesday.
Officials said the meeting discussed issues like clearance of pre qualifications, bidding documents and river training works and took the decision on signing the agreement at the end of this month.
The WB being the coordinating agency of the multi-donor Padma project will soon declare the selection of pre-qualifications for the 6.15 kilometre bridge and its river training works and release related tender documents.
However, Bangladesh Bridge Authority, the executing agency of the $2.9 billion project has already taken steps to complete signing of all loan agreements on completion of formalities with Asian Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency and Islamic Development Bank.
“We have contacted all financiers and received a positive response in connection with signing of the loan agreement in a single ceremony,” the secretary also said.
