Clashes defer counting in Sirajdikhan centre

Clashes and ballot box snatching have led to postponement of vote counting at a centre in Sirajdikhan upazila in Munshiganj. The incident, which left two injured, took place at the Latofdi Primary School centre of the upazila on Tuesday when miscreants attacked the Union Parishad poll centre.

Confirming the incident, police officer MosleUddiin, who was present at the spot, said, “At least a 100 of them armed with local weapons vandalised the place and snatched the boxes during the clash.”

A rifle and some bullets were found missing after the clash, which also left an Ansar member ‘Yasin’ and a police official injured, he said.

“Additional police forces have been deployed in that area,” he added.

Sirajdikhan Police Station officer in-charge Mahbubur Rahman said they were bring normalcy in the area.
