Mawa ferry service resumes after 43hrs

Ferry service on Mawa-Kawrakandi route resumed around 8:00am Saturday after 43 hours of disruption due to stormy weather.

Ashiquzzaman, deputy managing director of Mawa office of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), said the authorities stopped the ferry movement at about 1:00pm Friday due to inclement weather.

Over 600 vehicles got stranded on both sides of the river due to suspension of the ferry service, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.

The service resumed at around 8:00am Saturday but the authorities halted movement of five flat ferries at about 11:00am as the river went rough again, the official said.

The movement of other ferries on the route was normal.
