A college lecturer & a housewife killed in separate incidents in Munshiganj; 20 injured

Lecturer of Khraha Ideal (Degree) College and a newly-married damsel were killed in separate incidents in Sirajdikhan and Srinagar upazi1as on Monday and Tuesday.

A Khraha-bound bus from Dhaka packed with 35-passengers skidded off Dhaka-Baroikhali-Khraha road in Baroikhali in Srinagar and fell into ditch 8-feet beneath the road as its driver lost control over steering leaving 21 severely injured at 1:30pm on Tuesday.

Locals rushed in and rescued the injured from inside the bus. Of the injured Sonia Afroze, 35, Lecturer, English Department, of Khraha Degree College succumbed on way to Dhaka Medical Hollege Hospital (DMCH) at around 2pm.

Injured Kajol Ghose and Kamal Sheikh, both students of the college were admitted to Pongu Hospital in capital in critical condition while the rest were admitted to different local and Dhaka hospitals including Mitford Hospital.

In separate incident, young housewife Bithi Akhtar was killed allegedly by her husband Jahangir Mollah and members of his family at Jahangir`s house at Shikarpur village in Sirajdikhan upazila on Monday.

Locals said Bithi, 22, daughter of Idris Mollah of Basuniar village was married off with Jahangir, son of Modhu Mollah of Shikarpur only two weeks ago.

The exact cause of the killing could not be ascertained immediately but locals suspect that dispute over dowry might be the reason behind the murder.

The body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy Monday afternoon.
