Popular film actress of the 1980s Ifte Ara Dalia Doel, known as ‘sweet girl of Dhallywood’, died at a hospital in the capital’s Dhanmondi on Thursday.
Her husband Subrata, also an actor, told bdnews24.com that Doel, 45, had suffered a brain haemorrhage towards the end of 2009 and her health was deteriorating since then.
The actress was admitted to Dipham Hospital after undergoing treatment in three other hospitals over the last month. Doel was also suffering from breathing trouble, it is learnt.
Doctors at Dipham Hospital confirmed the death at 9.20am on Thursday.
Her body was taken first to the family’s East Rajabazar residence on Indira Road around noon. After janaja (funeral prayer) there, the body was brought to the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC), where fellow actors and cultural activists paid their homage to the late actress.
She will be buried at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard, Subrata said.
‘Kabuliwala’, directed by Kazi Hayat, was Doel’s last film with husband Subrata and daughter Dighi, who has now earned popularity as a child model and actress.
Born in Bikrampur, Dhaka, on Sep 25, 1966, Doel acted in around 100 films. Of those, ‘Hisab Nikas’, ‘Gypsy Sarder’, ‘Foysala’, ‘Sathbhai’, ‘Prem Kahini’, ‘Towba’, ‘Ogo Bideshini’, ‘Aj Tomar Kal Tomar’, ‘Marshall Hiro’, ‘Chandranath’ and ‘Lakkhibadhu’ are noteworthy.

Film actress Doel died of cancer at a city hospital on December 29. She was 45.
The once popular actress breathed her last at Dipham Hospital, finally giving in to a two-and-a-half-year struggle with cancer.
After Doel, whose real name is Ifte Ara Dalia, suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2009, she was admitted to Square Hospital in the capital. Her health condition kept deteriorating since then.
Doel made her film debut in 1982 through acting opposite Razzak in ‘Chandranath’. ‘Kabuliwala’ was her last film with husband Subrato and daughter Dighi, who has now earned popularity as a child model and actress.
Born on September 25, 1966 in Bikrampur, Doel has played a variety of roles in nearly 100 films.
