17 dwelling houses, three shops burnt in Munshiganj

At least 17 dwelling houses and three shops were burnt in separate fire incidents in Tongibari and Sadar upazilas respectively on Saturday.

All the burnt 17 dwelling houses are located at Hatbaligoan Monipara village under Tongibari upazila.. Fire service official Dulal Hossain said that the fire first broke out at one Malek Mia’s house and soon engulfed the adjacent houses.

On information, fire brigade with the help of local people extinguished the blaze after two hours of frantic efforts.

The affected house owners accused the fire service personnel of reaching the spot late by an hour which increased the amount of damage. The extent of loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk 30 lakh, they said.
Officer-in-Charge of Tongibari Police Station Shahidul Islam said that after receiving information they instantly reached the spot.

On the other hand, the gutted three shops are situated at Dolagowan Bazaar under the Sadar upazila.
Fire service officials said that the fire first broke out at the tailor’s shop and spread to the neighbouring two shops. Fire service team with the help of locals doused the blaze after an hour of frantic effort.

Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Abul Basher said that the losses could be about Tk eight lakh.
