Members of the Coast Guard in a drive seized 15 maunds of Jatka fish from a launch in Dhaleswari River at Sadar upazila of Munshiganj on Sunday, reports BSS.
In another drive, the Coast Guard members seized 60, 000 meters of current nets from Meghna River under Gazaria Upazila on the same day.
Coast Guard Officer Shafiul Islam said acting on a tip-off a team of coastguards raided the Dhaka-bound launch MV Zahid-3 coming from southern part of the country and seized the jatka fishes from inside the launch.
The Coast Guard members could not trace out the real owners of Jatka fish.
Munshiganj Sadar upazila fisheries officer Abul Kalam Azad said the seized jatka fishes were dumped under the earth in a char of the Dhaleswari River and the seized current nets have been kept in a Coast Guard camp for destroying.
The Coast Guard members also seized 695 maunds of jatka fish and 14, 51, 000 meters of current net in raids conducted between February 4 to March 31.
The government has banned catching of Jatka for the period from February 1 to May 31.
