The wife of a chairman candidate, who had sustained bullet injuries during the March 23 upazila elections, died at a hospital in the capital Thursday night.
The dead was identifies as Lucky Akhter, 38, wife of Abdul Mannan Mona, a BNP rebel chairman candidate in Gazaria upazila.
With this death, the death toll from the upazila election violence rose to three.
Meanwhile, The Home Ministry on Thursday night withdrew Gazaria thana OC Mamun-Ur-Rashid and forced Superintendent of Police M Hibibur Rahman to go on leave for a week.
Lucky received bullets when army personnel shot at Mannan’s supporters, who confined the presiding officer of Baushia Government Primary School centre as he suspended voting citing vote rigging.
On information, army personnel rushed to the spot and fired gun shots to disperse Mannan’s supporters, leaving Lucky injured.
She was first rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and then shifted to the Apollo Hospitals where she succumbed to her injuries on Thursday night.
