Police have arrested a fake member of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Mia Barir Pool area at Aicha village of Shayestabad in Barisal city.

The accused was identified as Monir Hossain, 26, son of Shamsul Huq, hailed from Bikrampur of Munshiganj also a resident at Saw Road area of Barisal city.

Kazi Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kawnia police station of Barisal Metropolitan City, said Monir, identifying himself as a RAB member, tried to harass and blackmail a shopkeeper near Mia Barir Pool area on Monday.

After being challenged about his identification, he engaged in altercation with locals.

Later, Monir was handed over to Kawnia police station.

Sub Inspector Sujit Kumar Gomosta lodged a case as complainant against Monir and sent him to court.

Nusrat Jahan, magistrate of Barisal metropolitan magistrate court, sent the accused to jail in the afternoon rejecting his bail plea.
