A newborn died immediately after its birth due to the duty-doctor’s negligence at a private hospital in Voberchar area under Gazaria upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon.

Sub-inspector (SI) Mintu Mollah of Gazaria Police Station said Sumaya Akter, wife Babul Mia was admitted to Miazi TH Memorial Hospital & Lab for delivery on Thursday morning. At 2pm, she gave birth to a female baby following a caesarean operation arranged by the duty-doctor Banalata Sinha. At one stage, the newborn received head injury due to the doctor’s faulty move and died therey at 3pm.

Owner of the hospital Mizanur Rahman Miazi denied commenting in this regard after he was contacted over mobile phone.

More than a hundred agitated people staged demonstrations outside the hospital protesting the incident. Police is trying to control the situation.
