Police have detained an individual who thretened to kill Munshiganj-1 constituency parliament member and Srinagar Upazila Awami League president Sukumar Ranjan Ghosh.
Police said 40-year-old Mobarak Hossain Jihadi, son of late Alauddin Jihadi of village Kaizarchar under South Keraniganj of Dhaka thretened to kill the ruling party MP.
Mobarak was arrested from Patharghata Road at South Keraniganj of Dhaka at about 3pm on Monday. Earlier, his brother-in-law Mithun was arrested from village Mazidpur-Dayahata under Srinagar upazila on September 17 last. Mithun is the son of Zafar Sikder of the same area. Following the arrest of Mithun, police succeeded to arrest Mobarak according to the information provided by him, said Srinagar Police Station OC Mahbubur Rahman.
The OC said Mobarak Jihadi demaned Tk 5 lakh as extortion and threatened to kill Sukumar Ranjan Ghosh MP using different mobile phones since August 29 last. On September 17, Sukumar Ranjan Ghosh’s PA Kamrul Islam lodged a case with Srinagar Police Station. Mithun was arrested on that day. Following his arrest, Mobarak’s photo was collected from his mobile phone. Using the photograph and call list, police raided several times to arrest Mobarak. However, the raid became successful on Monday with the arrest of Mobarak Jihadi.
