At least 11 passengers were rescued after the sea-boat carrying them capsized in the Padma near Mawa on Mawa-Kaorakandi river route of the district on Thursday noon.

In-charge of Mawa river camp sub-inspector (SI) Khandaker Khalid said a Kaorakandi-bound sea-boat with 11 passengers left Mawa ghat on Thursday at 2:30pm. Suddenly the boat capsized due to turbulent waves in the Padma. Later, with the help of other sea-boats river police members rescued the drowning passengers.
