A Barguna court issued a warrant for arrest of police superintendent Habibur Rahman on Monday allegedly for torturing his wife for dowry.
Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal ordered his the arrest of Habibur and five others in a case filed by his wife Halima Akhter.
Halima filed the case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on September 23, 2014 alleging that Habibur tortured her for dowry.
The tribunal of Bazlul Rahman gave the order on Monday after Halima filed a Naraji petition on the investigation that concluded that they did not find evidences of torture on Habibur’s wife for dowry.
Habibur is currently attached to the police headquarters, said police officials.
Habibur was the superintendent of police in Munshiganj and he was attached to the police headquarters in April, 2014 in connection with the assault on Gazaria UNO by a cop.
Besides, there were allegations against him of dereliction of duty, indulging in corruption, misconduct and failure to contain violence during the upazila polls in Gazaria.
