Another body found in Meghna, trawler capsize toll up to 5

Another body has been found in the Meghna River after Wednesday’s trawler capsize.
Police and relatives fished out the body of four-year-old ‘Keyamoni’ from Vashanchar at Gazaria in Munshiganj on Friday.

Police, meanwhile, claimed that the body which was recovered on Thursday was not the victim of the trawler mishap.

Now the death toll in the accident stands at five.

Three other victims have been identified as three-year-old ‘Munia’, Abdur Gaffar Faruk, 28, and ‘Habib’, 16.

Additional Superintendent ABM Masud Hossain said 10-year-old Mohammad Foyez was still missing.

He said the search operation would continue, as the number of missing people might be higher.

The mishap occurred when a sand-laden cargo vessel had crashed into the trawler around 8pm on Wednesday near Bhasanchar.

Driver and the crew had abandoned the cargo vessel and fled right away.

The trawler was carrying at least 75 passengers.

Gazaria Police Station OC Ferdous Hossain said the process was on to file a case against the drivers, staff members and the owners of the trawler and the cargo vessel.

He said the law enforcers were trying to arrest the owners.

The district administration has announced to pay a compensation of Tk 20,000 to each of the families of the deceased.
