A leader of Workers Party, who was abducted from Dhaka on Thursday, has been rescued from Katakhali area of Munshiganj.
Tapan Shaha, 35, is the general secretary of Rampura thana unit of Workers Party.
Tapan Shaha said: “I went to a market in Gulistan around 7pm Thursday to buy a panjabi when five teens abducted me in a microbus at gunpoint.”
He said the abductors tied up his eyes and took him to a field after two to three hours.
The abductors demanded Tk50,000 as ransom, he added.
“They took Tk25,000 from my bKash account. As it took time to arrange the rest of the money, they left the place taking my mobile phone handset,” Tapan said.
Sub-Inspector Shafiqul Islam of Munshiganj police station said: “Being informed, police rushed to the spot and rescued Tapan from Katakhali area around 2am Friday.”
None was held in this connection, said the SI.
