Woman dies after jumping into river

Minor son rescued alive who was with her
Police recovered the body of a woman from the river Meghna in Munshiganj yesterday a day after she along with her three-year-old son had jumped off the Meghna bridge.

However, Adian, son of Majeda Akter Keya, wife of Mahmudur Rahman Masum of Comilla, was earlier rescued alive by some workers who witnessed the incident.

But they could not save his mother whose body was found floating near the spot the following day.

Gazaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ferdous Hossain said the rescued boy was handed over to his maternal uncle Hashim Hossain.

Keya left her in-law’s house around a year ago as they tortured her for dowry very often, Ferdous quoted Hashim as saying.

On the day of the incident, Keya was going to Dhaka from Comilla to inquire about a case filed against her in-laws, the OC said, adding that they were trying to ascertain why she jumped into the river.
