Extra security will be provided to foreign staff working in the Padma Bridge project, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said.
The minister said after a meeting on Saturday with the contractor firm, consultant firm and members of law enforcing agencies in the project area in Naodoba under Jajira upazila in Shariatpur, BSS reports.
He said: “I have come here to know about the wellbeing of the foreigners working in the project. I held meeting with the concerned officials to know whether they have any anxiety. No foreigners told me anything about any fear”.
“We have taken some steps to ensure security of the foreigners. Army, police and intelligence agencies are working to ensure foolproof security for the foreigners working in the project,” he added.
Project director Shafikul Islam, executive engineer Mohammad Abdul Quader, representative of consulting firm Express Way Bruse Hunter, contractor firm Sinohydro representative Choi and contractor firm Abdul Monem Limited’s director Abidur Rahman were present at the meeting, among others.
Around 11 hundred officials and staff including citizens of Canada, Korea, the United Kingdom and China are working in the Padma Bridge project.
