Missing journalist’s body found in Munshiganj

The body of missing journalist Awrangajeb Sajib was found floating in the Dhaleshwari River in Munshiganj Sadar upazila this afternoon.

Seeing a floating body in the river at Noyagaon of the district around 2:45pm, locals informed police.

Later, law enforcers recovered the body and informed Sajib’s family, the victim’s colleague Al-Amin, a reporter of private television channel ntv, told The Daily Star.

Sajib’s wife Morsheda Begum identified the body around 4:45pm, said Al-Amin who was also on the spot.

The body was later taken to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue, Al-Amin added.

Yunus Ali, officer-in-charge of Munshiganj Sadar Police Station, said no injury mark was found on the body.

Sajib’s younger brother Radin Ahmed told The Daily Star that the death of his brother remains a mystery. “My brother is not a man to commit suicide.”

Earlier on Sunday, Sajeeb went missing after he left his duty station at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 8:30am, said his family and colleagues.

Around 10:30am Sunday, a passenger from a Chandpur-bound launch phoned another DMCH correspondent using Sajib’s mobile phone and informed that Sajib had jumped into the river from the launch near Moktarpur Bridge in Munshiganj leaving his moneybag, ID cards, and two mobile phones, Sajib’s cousin Nizamul Amin told The Daily Star quoting his colleague. The launch staff later handed over his belongings to the Navy police outpost at Chandpur.
