Huge current net seized in Mirapara

A mobile court seized 12.0 million metres current net from a factory at Mirapara area in Sadar upazila of Munshiganj district on Sunday.

The court, led by executive magistrate Asif Anam Siddique, conducted the drive in cooperation with the officials of Fisheries Department and RAB-11 in the “Purabi Fishing Net Industry” and seized the banned current nets.

The court also arrested Bakul Begum, 50, one of the owners of the factory and also seized huge current net producing materials during the drive, according to a news agency report.

Shafiuddin Ahmed, another owner of the factory and husband of Bakul Begum, fled from the scene sensing the presence of the mobile court, the court sources said.

Mohammad Shahjadha Khashru, senior fisheries department official of the district, said the mobile court would conduct drives against the unscrupulous current net producing factories in the area.
