Abul Hossain, 35, was apprehended at his father-in-law’s house at Sreenagar upazila in Munshiganj on Thursday
Police have arrested the main accused who had allegedly been raping a teenage girl for almost a year with the help of her father in Dhaka’s Kamrangirchar area.
The accused, Abul Hossain, 35, was apprehended at his father-in-law’s house at Sreenagar upazila in Munshiganj on Thursday, Kamrangirchar police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Sheikh Morshed Ali said.
After the arrest, Abul has been brought to the police station, he said.
During primary interrogation, he confessed to raping the girl for almost a year, the police official said.
“We will produce him before a court on Friday,” he added.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court sent the victim’s father, Md Liton, 36, to jail on Wednesday.
SI Morshed said that the victim, 13, was staying with her father as her mother is an expatriate. Her father worked in a poultry shop owned by Abul Hossain and took Tk6,000 loan from Abul about a year ago.
As he failed to repay the loan, Abul proposed to Liton to convince his daughter for sexual relationship with him (Abul). At one stage, the girl was forced to compromise by her father, and Abul had been raping her for days, the police official said.
On Monday, seeking help, the victim disclosed the matter to one of her neighbours. The neighbour called the police through 999 on Tuesday, the law enforcement rescued the girl and arrested her father, the SI said.
Police conducted drives at places in Dhaka to arrest Abul but he went into hiding after receiving information from the victim’s father, Morshed said.
The rape survivor was admitted to the One-stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) early Wednesday.
“She has been undergoing treatment at the hospital. After her recovery, the victim will be produced before a court for her statement,” the SI added.
