The Detective Branch of police arrested a man from Munshiganj on Friday evening for alleged acid attack on his former wife at Darussalam of Mirpur in the capital.

The accused, Abdul Ali, was remanded in DB police custody for one-day by the court on Saturday, said Ashrful Kabir, additional deputy commissioner for DB Mirpur zone.

In the primary interrogation, he confessed to committing the attack, Ashrful said.

At around 6:30am on Monday, when victim Rahima Begum, 38, was returning home after her nightshift duty at a Darussalam hospital, Ali allegedly hurled acid on her.

She is now undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

The victim’s brother-in-law Asadul Islam Miraz said that the couple had difficulties and they got divorced recently. Ali used to torture his wife and continued harassing even after the divorce, said the police officer.
