Atikullah Khan first published Janakantha newspaper in 1993
Mohammad Atikullah Khan, editor and publisher of Bangla-daily Janakantha, has passed away at the age of 71.
He died on his way to Evercare Hospital at 5am on Monday after suffering from respiratory issues.
Janakantha Deputy Editor Obaidul Kabir said the veteran journalist fell ill at his home.
The freedom fighter Atiqullah Khan was born on August 29, 1951 in the Khan family of Medini Mandal village in Munshiganj district. He fought in Sector 2 during the war of liberation.
Later, he published his book “Shei Razakar” and first published the newspaper in 1993.
Atikullah Khan, also a member of the Jatiya Press Club and Chairman of the Globe Janakantha Shilpa Paribar, left behind wife, two sons, grandchildren and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Cantonment Jam-e-Mosque after Zuhr prayers. Later, his body will be kept at the mortuary of Birdem Hospital.
Meanwhile, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Atikullah Khan Masud.
They prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to his bereaved family.
Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin also expressed profound shock at the demise of Atikullah Khan.
